This map is a representation of mean annual air temperature within South America. (Legates, D. R. and C. J. Willmott 1990b. Mean Seasonal and Spatial Variability in Global Surface Air Temperature. Theoretical and Applied Climatology 41: 11-21.) This data set is in ASCIIGRID format and can be ingested into Arc/Info software with the ASCIIGRID command or into other geographic information system or cartographic software capable of ingesting a matrix of values to form a raster layer. This data is referenced to a geographic coordinate system and its units are in degrees celsius.
